Gosh, it feels like only yesterday we were packing our bags, buzzing with excitement for our trip to Jungle Hut. We’d heard so much about it, and let me tell you, it completely lived up to the hype! We visited last year, and honestly, we’re already dreaming of our next escape back to this little slice of heaven nestled right in the heart of the Nilgiri mountains.

Last year we visited Masinagudi with the aim to check out two nearby forest reserves. Being almost on the border of 2 states, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, this destination was perfect to visit Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and the Bandipur Forest Reserve.
Jungle Hut came highly recommended and did not disappoint one bit. When we arrived, the first thing we noticed was how perfectly rustic and comfortable everything felt. We opted for one of their Deluxe Tents, and it was just what we needed – a cozy queen-size bed + an extra bed for our daughter and our own private washroom. It was such a refreshing change not to have a TV or phone in the room; it really helped us disconnect and truly focus on each other and the incredible nature around us. Every meal was a delightful surprise; the food was delicious and there was always something new to try. We spent hours by the swimming pool, just soaking in the incredible mountain views. And when we felt like being a bit more active, we took a guided walk with the in-house biodiversity and wildlife expert.

Our Wild Adventures: Things to Do
The real magic of Jungle Hut, for us, was how completely immersed we felt in nature. We’re huge birdwatchers and were captivated by all the incredible birds flitting about – you could tell it’s a prime spot year-round! Our absolute favorite was the jungle walk through the deciduous forest; it felt like stepping into another world, and we spotted so many amazing plants and little critters. Of course, the highlight was the Jungle Safari in Mudumalai. Seeing those elephants and even a fleeting glimpse of a leopard was just breathtaking! Other animals spotted were wild boar, Bison and loads of deer. We also made sure to visit the forest department elephant camp, which was so heartwarming to see them being cared for.
Beyond the wildlife, we spent a lovely afternoon exploring a nearby tea estate in the Nilgiris. It was fascinating to learn about how tea, pepper, and coffee are grown. It’s clear Jungle Hut is a fantastic spot for children, with all the open space, treasure hunts, and even art classes they offer.
One day 3 we went to Bandipur for a longer safari. These need to be booked online or you can try your luck by just showing up. The leopard spotting we had will remain forever etched in our memory.

On the forest walk, our guide told us how he was involved in the Oscars winning documentary “The Elephant Whisperers” as a translator for the couple who the story is based on. We heard many titbits of information from behind the scenes of the film which was shot very close to here. If you have not seen the film, please watch it at the earliest.
